Join us in Vulcan Park on Friday 8th May for a brief service of celebration and reflection as we join the nation in remembering the day the guns fell silent 75 years ago, and the end of the war in Europe.
The order of events will be as follows:
2.45pm: Mayor, standard bearers and invited guests will process from the Town Hall to the Cenotaph in Vulcan Park.
2.55pm: Beginning of the service with the bugler playing The Last Post & Reveille. Followed by the Royal British Legion reading the Exhortation and Kohima Epitaph.
Prayer by The Mayor’s Chaplain.
Speech by the Mayor of Workington.
Toast to heroes.
The ceremony will be brief and will take place at the Cenotaph. It will also give participants chance to take a look at the work being done on our new Vulcan Park memorial garden, which is being created to mark VE Day.
Workington Town Council are offering groups up to £300 worth of funding to host their own VE day celebration event. Visit www.workingtontowncouncil.gov.uk/grantsfunding for more information and to apply.
