The Festival of Running returns to Workington on the 2nd August for a community-focused fitness and fun day, designed to promote health, wellbeing and local engagement.
The event combines competitive races with family-friendly activities, entertainment and refreshments, creating an inclusive and celebratory atmosphere for participants and spectators.
There will be Half Marathon, 10k, 5k and family fun run.
The Festival of running will be taking place at the Workington Cricket Club, Ernest Valentine Ground, The Cloffocks, Workington, Cumbria, CA14 3YH. The 10k, 5K and Fun Run will start at Black Path by Allerdale House (CA14 3YL) and the Half Marathon will start at The Hall, Hall Park (CA14 4YB).
Registration this year will be at Workington Cricket Club.
Registration will open at 8.00 for all races and close at 14:00. Those doing the half marathon have time to collect their numbers and make their way to the start. Cumberland AC runners will accompany runners who are unfamiliar with the area to the start of the race.
Courses

All races will have the same start as previous years.

There will be a lead bike and sweeper runner for all races.
Registration this year will be at Workington Cricket Club.

Entry Fees
09.30 - Half-marathon: £24 (£22 affiliated)
12.00 - 10K: £14 (£12 affiliated)
13.30 - 5K: £8 (£6 affiiliated)
14.30 - 1K fun run - FREE
A £2 discount is also provided to runners entering both the 5K and 10K races online.
Entries on the day will be subject to an additional £3.

Facilities
Runners taking part in the half marathon and 10K will receive vouchers for free refreshments on completion of their race.
Massages will be available FREE to all runners throughout the day.
Car Parking

There will be no parking allowed in the Cricket Ground, unless prior permission has been granted by organisers.

Parking is available nearby at the Sports Centre and Multi-car Park.

Signage and marshals will be situated to direct runners to registration and the start of races.

Showers, toilets and changing rooms are available.

A bar and refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Stalls and children’s entertainment will be available.
Courses

Fun Run: Adults accompanying a child do not need to enter the 1K or run with a number, unless a medal is specifically required. This will allow more children to take part in the run.
Prizes: Presentations will take place throughout the day once runners have completed each race.
Half-marathon:
1st 3 male and female finishers, plus 5 year age categories. Trophies to 1st male and female finishers.
Medals, certificates and drawstring bags to all finishers plus free refreshments.
10K
1st 3 male and female finishers, plus 5 year age categories.
Medals, certificates and drawstring bags to all finishers plus free refreshments.
5K
First 3 male and female finishers (plus 1st male and female junior).
Medals, certificates and drawstring bags to all runners.
Fun Run:
1st boy and girl to finish.
Medals, certificates and sweets to all runners.
Prize for best fancy dress.
Race safety briefing
There will be a race briefing prior to the start of each race.
1st aid provision will be provided.
Withdrawals and number swaps: These will be allowed until the 25th July 2026. Refunds may be subject to a charge to cover costs of processing the entry and refund. After this date no refunds or change of runner can be guaranteed.
