Workington Town Council is already planning an extensive annual events programme for the Town in 2018. 2017 was a successful year for the Culture Committee’s events offering and is promising to be even bigger and better for 2018.
Some dates for your diaries:
Mayor Making and AGM
Wednesday 9 May
Carnegie Theatre from 7pm
An important date in our calendar as the new Mayor of Workington is elected for 2018-2019. Come along, watch and meet your new Mayor and local Councillors. A free buffet is provided.
Workington Go!
Saturday 19 May
Vulcan Park, Hall Park and Workington Leisure Centre from 11am-4pm
Get out and about and active with our Workington Go! event, bringing you activities such as Street Art, Canoeing, Snorkelling, Archery, Panna Football, Tag Rugby, Climbing and more….
Bookings will be taken for all activities and we’ll let you know when the event is open for booking.
Party in the Park
Saturday 2 June
Vulcan Park, Workington from 11am-4pm
Live Music, Children’s entertainment, market stalls, kids arts and crafts, fun fair, storytelling…. more details to be announced soon.
Hub Performances
We will once again take over The Hub in Workington Town Centre every Saturday over the summer. Acts will include local artists, musicians and groups. If you would be interested in performing, just let us know (contact details at bottom of the post).
Family Fun Days
Our popular Family Fun Days will take place over the summer and once again we will be offering FREE hot dog, chips, drink and ice cream to the first 100 children that attend.
There will be loads of fun activities to get involved with, make and take home with you as well as circus skills, outdoor sports, birds of prey and mini beasts. All from 1pm-4pm.

Kite Making Workshops
Wednesday 15 & Thursday 16 August
Harrington Youth Club (times tbc)
Join us for a number of sessions during these 2 dates to make a kite from start to finish. These workshops were very popular in 2017 so book early. We’ll let you know once bookings are open. Totally FREE and we’ll provide everything you need!

Kite Festival
Harrington Marina
Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 August from 11am-4pm
A spectacular display of kites from Smile Factor 10 will once again be on display with different kites from 2017! We will also have a fun fair and children’s entertainment and crafts on both days.
Romeo and Juliet
Saturday 1 September
Workington Hall from 7pm
Join us for a romantic and dramatic night with the Capulets and Montagues. Performed by the brilliant Oddsocks; bring picnics, blankets, torches and don’t forget the wine!
Remembrance Sunday
Sunday 11 November
Harrington and Pow Street, Workington (times tbc)
Join us for our annual Parade to remember and honour our troops, past and present. Full schedule will be published nearer the time.
Umbrella Decorating Workshop
Saturday 24 November
Moorclose Community Centre (time tbc)
Join us for our annual ‘bling your brolly’ workshop. Add glitter, tinsel, lights and all things sparkly to your umbrella and then join us in our umbrella parade at our Christmas Festival. Totally FREE and we’ll provide everything you need, including the brolly!
Workington Christmas Festival
Saturday 1 December
Workington Town Centre from 11am-5.30pm
Lights switch on will take place at 5pm.
It’s our annual lights switch on and what an event we are planning for you! Live music, Christmas market, storytelling, arts and crafts, face painting, superheroes, princesses, magic, puppets and much more….
