A Summer to Remember in Workington
Summer 2026 has been a brilliant time for community events in Workington.
From live performances and family activities to competitive races, fundraising and local recognition, the past few months have brought people together to celebrate everything that makes Workington special.
As we look ahead to Autumn and Winter, here’s a quick roundup of some of the summer’s highlights.
Party in the Park brings Vulcan Park to life
Hosted by Everyone Here and Workington Town Council on 4 and 5 July, Party in the Park was a fantastic celebration of the Workington community.
Vulcan Park was filled with live performances, theatre, family activities, music, food and plenty of smiles, despite the Cumbrian weather.
It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying everything on offer, taking part in activities, cheering on performers and spending time together in one of Workington’s much-loved green spaces.

The Festival of Running Brings Fitness and Fun to Workington
On 2 August, the Festival of Running returned to Workington for a community-focused fitness and fun day designed to promote health, wellbeing and local engagement.
The event combined competitive races with family-friendly activities, entertainment and refreshments, creating an inclusive and celebratory atmosphere for participants and spectators.
Runners could take part in a Half Marathon, 10K, 5K or family fun run. The Festival of Running took place at Workington Cricket Club, Ernest Valentine Ground, The Cloffocks, Workington, Cumbria, CA14 3YH.
The 10K, 5K and Fun Run started at Black Path by Allerdale House, while the Half Marathon started at The Hall, Hall Park.
The family fun run also offered an opportunity for more children to take part. Adults accompanying a child did not need to enter the 1K or run with a number, unless a medal was specifically required.
Celebrating The Runners
Presentations took place throughout the day once runners had completed each race.
Half Marathon and 10K runners could receive medals, certificates and drawstring bags, alongside free refreshments. Prizes included recognition for the first three male and female finishers, as well as five-year age categories. Trophies were also awarded to the first male and female Half Marathon finishers.
The 5K included prizes for the first three male and female finishers, along with the first male and female junior. All runners received medals, certificates and drawstring bags.
The Fun Run included prizes for the first boy and girl to finish, with medals, certificates and sweets for all runners. There was also a prize for the best fancy dress.

Recognising Workington’s Community Heroes
This summer also saw Workington Town Council celebrate some of the incredible people and organisations helping friends, family and the wider community.
The Community Hero project recognises someone, or a business, who goes the extra mile, helps people in need, champions community spirit, encourages others to do what is right for the town and shows dedication to the betterment of Workington.
The summer’s Community Hero winners were:

As summer draws to a close, we would like to wish everyone in Workington a brilliant start to September.
