The Helena Thompson Museum transforms into a haunted haven from 11am to 4:30pm with family-friendly frights including Halloween crafts, pumpkin picking, face painting by Gray's Arts, haybale photo opportunities, imagination parties, and spine-tingling science workshops.
The day begins with sensory sessions (11am-12:30pm) specially designed for children with additional needs, featuring 30 tickets at £5 cash deposit (fully refunded). Main Halloween activities run 12:30pm-4:30pm across four hourly sessions with 60 tickets each, bookable through Eventbrite with a £2.88 refundable charge. Separate spooky science workshops run at 1pm-2pm and 2:30pm-3:30pm (30 tickets each, £5 refundable deposit).

As darkness falls, the scares intensify! From 6pm-10pm, brave souls aged 14+ can experience 'A Walk In The Park: Scare Experience' - an immersive forest fright-fest through Hall Park's haunted woods. Organised by the Scarecaster team from Muncaster Castle, expect jump-scares and live actors creating spine-chilling thrills.
Meet at Horse Close Car Park (next to the Skate Park) dressed for weather with sensible shoes. Under 18s need adult accompaniment, fancy dress welcome but no props allowed. Only 250 tickets available across eight half-hour sessions from 6pm-9:30pm (31 tickets per session).
'After the success of running scare mazes further afield, it's been an honour to create something closer to home. With Workington Town Council's support and an amazing cast, we hope to scare Workington's people and provide a great experience,' says Simone Heatherington from Vivid Events.
From family-friendly museum fun to spine-chilling forest scares, Workington's Halloween promises thrills for every age. Don't miss the town's most frightfully fun day of the year!
Remembrance Sunday: Honouring Our Community's Heritage
A Day of Reflection for Our Town

Sunday 9th November 2025 marks one of the most important Remembrance Day events Cumbria observes, and our community takes great pride in honouring those who served. This deeply significant day brings residents together to pay our respects and remember the sacrifices made for our freedom.
Our town hosts two separate parades that demonstrate the strength of our community spirit:
Harrington Parade begins at 9:40am, assembling at the Royal British Legion before proceeding to St Mary's Church for service, followed by the ceremony at the Cenotaph.
Workington Parade starts at 2pm, assembling on Pow Street before moving to the service at Vulcan Park Cenotaph, concluding with a salute to the Mayor on Oxford Street.
Both events welcome all residents, with free pie, peas and gravy served at the Royal British Legion following each parade. Throughout the day, multiple church services run from 9:30am to 11:30am, providing various opportunities for quiet reflection.

Community Participation
During Workington Autumn, our town transforms with silent soldier silhouettes displayed around the community and a moving WW1 Roll of Honour display in Vulcan Park. Local residents and businesses can participate in the window display competition, showing our collective respect and remembrance.

Workington Christmas: Our Festive Community Celebration

The magic of Christmas reaches its peak on Saturday 29th November 2025 with our annual Christmas Festival and Light Switch On. Running from 11am to 5:15pm in our town centre, this beloved community event officially launches our festive season.
The highlight comes at 5pm when our Christmas lights Workington display illuminates the town centre, creating that special atmosphere residents look forward to each year. This celebration brings families and neighbours together, marking the start of our community's Christmas traditions.
